The catalogue of the exhibition “TABULA – the Arvo Pärt Centre” held at Aedes Architekturforum, Berlin.
The exhibition, which took place from 9 December 2017 to 16 January 2018, was a visual and acoustic installation, introducing the architecture of the new building of the Arvo Pärt Centre and its ideological foundation. Arvo Pärt’s Tabula rasa performed at the exhibition was one of the key impulses in the creation of the building.
According to the architects Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano, the building is an architectural reflection of the silence and geometry of Arvo Pärt’s music. The building also draws on the surrounding landscape – the rhythm and vertical lines created by straight pines –, establishing a balance between the minimalism in Pärt’s works and the beauty of the forest environment.
The catalogue includes the architectural drawings of the building alongside excerpts from Arvo Pärt’s original score as well as musical sketches of Tabula rasa. The catalogue was compiled by the architectural office Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos in collaboration with the Arvo Pärt Centre and it was published by the Aedes Architecture Forum.
